Turkish Airlines has confirmed it is in non-binding discussions to acquire shares in Spanish airline Air Europa in a stock filing on June 20, 2025.
The confirmation follows media reports suggesting the airline was in discussions.
“Our company continuously evaluates growth opportunities to strengthen its position in the global aviation industry and enhance its competitiveness in the market," Turkish read in its filing. "Non-binding discussions are being held to assess the investment opportunity in Air Europa and to explore potential partnership synergies.
The company said it would share any new developments should they arise.
It was reported in May that Air France-KLM and Lufthansa halted their negotiations with Air Europa owner, the Hidalgo family, on acquiring a 25% stake in the airline.
According to a report from Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, the family wants to keep the airline's value at €1bn despite both airlines disagreeing with the value. According to the paper, both airlines refused an offer to buy 25% stake in the airline for €240 million.
Air France-KLM and Lufthansa had both declined to comment.
Turkish Airlines chairman Ahmet Bolat said recently at a closed media event during the Paris Air Show that it was closing the “very final gap” in its negotiations with Boeing regarding its massive for approximately 150 737 MAX and 75 787s. The airline had hoped to close the deal at the show, but with Boeing stripping back its presence in the wake of the fatal Air India Flight 171 crash, the deal was delayed further.
