Stansted Airport has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard after introducing a range of energy-saving programmes.
The UK airport gained the certification after achieving a 2% reduction in emissions from its buildings and vehicles between January 2007 and December 2009 following a series of initiatives in recent years. Staff have been encouraged to turn off electrical items overnight, low-energy lighting has been installed on the airfield and biomass technology has been installed in its terminal extension.
