Scott Debano has been appointed to the position of managing director, head of distribution at alternative investment manager, AIP Capital.
“I am excited to be joining the AIP Capital team,” commented Debano. “AIP has differentiated itself as an asset-based investment platform and I am excited to work with the team to help execute on its strategic goals.”
Speaking to Airline Economics, Debano said on his new role: “What that will entail is joint venture (JV) and equity relationships as we progress the business here and grow the platform, looking for incremental partners for the various assets and investments that we're making.”
Prior to joining AIP Capital, Debano worked at Citigroup, heading transportation finance within markets ABS&F, where he managed a team of nine professionals and was responsible for all non-recourse origination initiatives across both lending and capital markets. Prior to this role, Debano was part of the company's global structure transportation finance team as managing director where he was responsible for product development, origination and execution, and advisory mandates across the industrial transportation sector, focusing predominantly on aviation.
“I'd been at Citi for a very long time and had been on the banking side pretty much most of my career,” Debano added. “This is a growth opportunity, not only for the growth of the business, but for my own professional growth. I'm really looking to expand on and bring in the skills I've acquired over the years and put them into something good, and grow from there.”
Debano formally left Citi at the end of last year after his garden leave ended, which began in October 2024. He said his departure was a mutual decision.
“I did some consulting and advisory projects during that time,” continued Debano. “As I was working through all that, it led into my functioning role here.”
