Spirit AeroSystems has begun shipping the 11.5-metre carbon-fiber outer spar components for the Airbus A350 XWB aircraft.
The spar component joins with inner and mid spars to form the leading edge spar of each wing.
Tom Greenwood, Spirit's A350 XWB spar program director, said: "This first unit was built at our new, state-of-the-art facility using automated composite fabrication technology and the technical expertise of Spirit employees."
The part was shipped from Spirit’s Kinston, North Carolina plant.
