Electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developer Joby has received a Part 141 certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its flight academy as it continues to move towards launch of operations.
The company said the certificate allows it to streamline pilot training for its air taxi operations.
In addition, the federal agency accepted Joby's Part 5 air operations safety management systems (SMS). This SMS requirement for air taxi operators involves developing safety policies and procedures. Joby said this also entails demonstrating a “culture that prioritises safety”.
“We are also building a strong safety foundation for our planned operations with the FAA acceptance of our SMS governing air operations under our Part 135 operation, Joby Elevate,” said Joby president of operations Bonny Simi.
The Joby electric air taxi is designed to carry one pilot and four passengers.
