Birmingham Airport reopens after emergency landing closed runway

Birmingham Airport reopened its runway on August 6, 2025, more than six hours after a small aircraft made an emergency landing due to a landing gear failure.

Woodgate Aviation, a private charter firm that is based in Belfast who owns the Beech B200 Super King aircraft that was involved in the incident, said in a statement that the "main under-carriage collapsed on touch down."

All people on board the aircraft have been discharged by the emergency services. 

Police said in a post on X that emergency crews responded to the incident, which occurred at around 12:40 local time.

Images shared on social media showed a small propeller aircraft stationary on the runway of Britain's seventh busiest airport. The aircraft had taken off at 12:11pm, bound for Belfast in Northern Ireland, according to Flightradar24.

The incident caused dozens of flights both to and from the airport have been cancelled and delayed, causing disruption to thousands of passengers, with a number of services diverted to other airports around the UK.

The incident is being investigated by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.
