In a letter to board members Karl Ulrich Garnadt and Bettina Volkens stated that further cost cutting measures were needed to remain competitive since its cost level is 30-40% higher than its direct competitors, namely easyJet or Turkish Airlines. Despite remedial measures to reduce costs, Lufthansa remains at risk from rising staffing costs, airport fees and air traffic control charges.
