EMBRACING SEPTEMBER AND CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE

As the last days of summer fade into the crisp beginnings of September, I find myself reflecting on the season ahead and the significance it holds for our team at Airline Economics. September marks not only the end of summer but also the start of the busy autumn conference season—a time when the aviation industry comes together to exchange ideas, forge new connections, and celebrate the progress we’ve made over the past year.

This year, the season carries even more weight as we prepare to unveil the Airline Economics 40 under 40 Class of 2024. It’s a task that never fails to inspire me. Each year, I am astounded by the achievements of the prospective candidates during the selection process. Researching their careers, their lives, and in many cases, the sacrifices they’ve made to get to where they are today is a humbling experience. It makes me incredibly proud to have the opportunity to shine a light on their stories and recognise them for their talent, skill, and sheer determination.

However, this process also comes with its challenges. With almost 100 nominees, narrowing down the list to just 40 individuals is no easy feat. It’s a responsibility I take seriously, yet it often leaves me feeling like a chronic underperformer. How do you choose only 40 when the pool is brimming with so much promise and potential? The truth is, I wish I could highlight every single one of them. But with space and time constraints, I have to make tough decisions, knowing that those who don’t make the final cut are no less extraordinary.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of these young talents, it’s also essential to recognise the mentors who have guided them along the way. The Airline Economics Mentors 2024—an exclusive assembly of aviation veterans—have played an instrumental role in shaping these rising stars. Their wisdom, guidance, and support are invaluable, and their impact is evident in the achievements of the 40 under 40 honourees.

As we move into this busy season, I encourage you all to take a moment to celebrate not only the milestones we’ve reached but also the people who have helped us get there. Whether you’re attending a conference, mentoring a young professional, or simply reflecting on your journey, remember that our industry’s strength lies in the collective talent, dedication, and passion of its people. Here’s to a successful autumn and to celebrating the bright future of aviation.
