Riyadh Air has launched ‘Riyadh Cargo’ — the start-up airline's entry into the air cargo market. The commencement of its cargo operations will see the airline activate its belly-hold cargo operations across its widebody fleet.
The airline said it will use the capacity on its over 120 on-order widebody aircraft to move cargo globally.
Riyadh Air commenced operations at the end of last year with its Riyadh to London Heathrow route. The route was for select passengers and employees onboard its technical spare 787-9. The airline will begin full commercial operations sometime this first quarter with the arrival of its first brand new 787 Dreamliner.
On this initial route, the airline has transported “substantial cargo volumes" across various commodities. These include garment and textiles, fresh flowers, seafood, tea, and coffee.
“Launching within a live environment allows us to test, learn, and continuously refine how we operate, while delivering real value to our customers from the get-go," said Riyadh Air global head of cargo Pravin Singh. ”The launch of the brand is a foundational step in building a cargo business that grows alongside our network expansion and supports Saudi Arabia’s broader logistics ambitions."
The airline has partnered with CHAMPS's cargo end-to-end platform ‘Cargo spotneo’. The system will allow for greater operational control, enhanced data visibility, and more responsive decision-making, the airline said.
