Kenya’s Jambojet takes delivery of tenth aircraft in growing fleet

Jambojet, a Kenyan low-cost regional and cargo carrier, has taken delivery of a Dash 8 Q-400, bringing its total fleet to 10 aircraft.

Karanja Ndegwa, CEO and managing director of Jambojet, said the aircraft will be used to grow capacity on “key routes” including Nairobi to Kisumu, Eldoret, and Diani.

In the short term, the new aircraft will help meet the high demand of the festive season — which is Kenya’s peak period for air travel.

The airline is also exploring the possibility of network expansion in East Africa “and beyond".

Jambojet currently flies to six destinations from its base in Nairobi and three destinations from Mombasa, its secondary hub, including the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar.

Launched in April 2014, Jambojet is the only low-cost carrier in Kenya to be awarded the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA registration) — a certification it received in July 2019.

In its 11 years of operations, Jambojet has carried over 8.6 million passengers, 44% of whom are first time flyers.

Its fleet consists exclusively of De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 aircraft.
