Italy's flag carrier ITA Airways has reported a net profit of €209 million in 2025, improving €436 million on 2024. This marks the airline's first ever positive net result since it launched in 2021.
The result was boosted by early benefits from its partnership with Lufthansa Group. In January last year, the airline group finalised a 41% stake in ITA Airways.
However, the airline said leasing costs associated with its fleet modernisation and expansion plan “remain high”, impacting its operating result.
“We know that to achieve fully sustainable profitability, we must reduce the burden of fleet leasing costs; we are already working resolutely on this,” said ITA Airways CEO and general manager Joerg Eberhart.
The airline received 10 new aircraft and retired three older-generation aircraft, bringing its total fleet to 106 aircraft by the end of the year.
Passenger numbers were down 8% to 16.2 million, while scheduled flights were down 11% to 123,000 for the year, resulting in 2.1 percentage point increase for its load factor, totalling 83.4%.
ITA recorded a positive EBIT result for the second consecutive year, increasing €22 million on 2024 to €25 million.
EBITDA totalled €404 million for the year, up €67 million. The airline generated €3.2bn in revenues, of which €2.8bn came from passenger revenues.
