Ryanair is planning to cut the number of flights at the Frankfurt-Hahn airport by almost 30% due to an airline tax to be levied in Germany next year. The tax, which will cost between €8 and €45 per flight depending on the length of the flight, is part of an austerity plan to raise €1 billion a year.
The low cost carrier plans to cut the number of weekly flights from Frankfurt from 532 to 382 from mid-2011. The number of destinations will be cut from 54 to 45.
German airlines Lufthansa and Air Berlin have also sharply criticised the tax.
