Etihad launches six new African routes

Etihad Airways has launched six new routes to Africa as it continues to expand across the continent.

The airline has added new routes to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ghana, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe from Abu Dhabi.

“Demand for air connectivity across key African markets is outpacing existing supply, particularly in cargo and trade-linked sectors,” said Etihad Airways CEO Antonoaldo Neves. “This expansion is a direct response to that structural opportunity.”

The expansion will complement its joint business agreement with Ethiopian Airlines.

The routes include Accra, Ghana; Asmara, Eritrea; Harare, Zimbabwe; Kinshasa, DR Congo; Lubumbashi, DR Congo; and Lagos, Nigeria.

Earlier this week, Etihad announced five new routes and 28 additional weekly flights to China, strengthening its joint venture with China Eastern.

“By extending our network alongside our recent China expansion, we are enabling a more efficient corridor linking Africa, the Middle East and Asia through Abu Dhabi,” said Neves.

The Asmara route will launch first on November 7, 2026, operating four times per week. This will be followed by Accra and Kinshasa on March 17 and 18 next year, respectively. The Accra route will operate four times per week, while Kinshasa will operate three times per week.

The Lagos route will have the highest frequency with seven flights per week, launching on March 18.

Both the Harare and Lubumbashi route will operate three times per week on March 24, 2027.

The airline also said today it is introducing Airbus A321LR twice daily to both Mumbai and New Delhi, complementing its established two daily widebody services to the cities.
