EL AL makes 'dramatic reduction' in flights, cutting to seven destinations

EL AL Israel Airlines has announced a “dramatic reduction” in its operations after the country's Ministry of Transportation limited outbound aviation activity.

As a result, the airline is restricted to only 15 outbound flights per day — each flight capped at 50 passengers.

The airline will now only fly to seven key international destinations, including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Paris, Rome and Athens.

These measures now cuts the airline's capacity by 95%.

“We emphasize that the strict limitations on operations at Ben-Gurion Airport mean that we have transitioned to essential flight activity only, in order to maintain Israel's air bridge to and from the world,” said the airline. “All decisions were made based on safety and operational considerations.”

EL AL said priority is being given to “exceptional humanitarian and medical cases”.
