Air Astana board approves Airbus aircraft acquisition

Air Astana's board of directors have approved the purchase of five Airbus A320neo aircraft and 20 Airbus A321neo aircraft, with deliveries scheduled between 2031 and 2034. The approval was made during the company's extraordinary general meeting yesterday (February 9).

The acquisition follows the airline signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus in late 2025, which outlined plans to expand its fleet with up to 50 A320neo family aircraft.

The transaction represents 50% or more of the company's total asset value, with secured purchase rights for 25 additional Airbus A320neo family aircraft.

The board also re-elected its nine-member board of directors through May 30, 2028. The board includes three representatives of shareholder Samruk-Kazyna, five independent directors, and a CEO transition from Peter Foster, who will serve until March 31, 2026, to Ibrahim Canliel, starting April 1, 2026.

Samruk-Kazyna representative Nurlan Zhakupov was elected chairman of the board until the next shareholder election.
