The African Development Bank Group has launched a new continent-wide aviation financing platform. The platform aims to strengthen connectivity and support sustainable profitability for Africa's growing air travel demand.
The Integrated Aviation Transformation Programme (IATP) was introduced during the Airlines, Capital and Connectivity Forum held in Nairobi.
The bank group noted that the industry's financial performance remains constrained, with African airlines being projected to generate net margins of only 1-2% — below the global average of 3.9% in 2026.
The IATP seeks to address these constraints by creating a coordinated platform that links policy reform, innovative financing instruments and project implementation within a bankable framework capable of attracting private and institutional investment.
