Following a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Yokohama, Japan, US President Barack Obama said the “open skies” aviation agreement signed on Saturday will help to deepen economic ties between the two countries. The “open skies” agreement allows Japanese and US air carriers to open routes between the two countries and determine the frequency of flights. Japanese and US officials reached a basic agreement in December last year and agreed on the details of the deal last month.
