After a long wait of easing of pandemic restrictions, the Chinese aviation sector is back on its road to recovery. In January 2023, the Chinese civil aviation industry carried around 39.78 million passengers recording a rise of 34.8% as compared to January 2022, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). The passenger turnover has recovered to 74.5%of the same period in 2019. Air China recorded a rise of 62.2% growth in passenger traffic as compared to same time last year while China Southern that its passenger turnover in January calculated by revenue passenger kilometers increased by 44.62 percent
