An American Airlines 767 aircraft abandoned takeoff after an engine caught fire on the runway at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on October 29. An engine part was reported to have hit a nearby building, prompting an investigation since the design of the engine should have prevented this. The US National Transportation Safety Board is trying to ascertain if the fault lies with the engine, with maintenance or possibly debris on the runway entering the engine. No serious injuries were reported, with all 161 passengers and nine crew members disembarking the aircraft safely.
