John Mica, the Florida Republican in line to take over the House Transportation Committee, has stated his first priority will be to pass an aviation bill to finance the overhaul of the US air-traffic navigation system. The bill aims to upgrade the air traffic control network to a satellite-based air-navigation system, proponents hope will reduce airspace congestion. Versions of the bill have been passed by the House and Senate already but work to merge the two have yet to progress. Mica hopes to eradicate the deadlock.
