It has been widely reported that Uganda’s Civil Aviation Authority is discussing additional fifth freedom rights with airlines in the region. The desire is to restore connectivity lost by the demise of Air Uganda. Negotiations are underway for a regional airline to fly twice a day from Entebbe to Nairobi under fifth freedom rights, and again for the route to Dar es Salaam. Ethiopian and RwandAir were granted fifth freedom rights from Entebbe to South Sudan, while FlyDubai was awarded fifth freedom rights to fly three times a week from Entebbe to Bujumbura.
