A private lawyer, Joseph M. Alioto of San Francisco, is suing American Airlines and US Airways and has requested a judge block the merger until his case can be heard. Alioto’s claims are similar to those made by the Department of Justice, which was settled last week. He states that the merger would reduce competition and boost fares.
