Environment groups are challenging London’s Newham council in the UK’s Royal Courts of Justice over its decision to allow London  City airport to expand by 50. Protestors say residents are blighted by the unbearable noise from aircraft taking off. However London City released an economic impact assessment, researched by independent experts York Aviation, which it says proves the benefits of increasing the number of flights to 120,000 a year. The study says the expanded airport will contribute more than £500 million a year to the UK economy. The judicial review begins today and is expected until Friday.
