Leonardo has won a €304 million deal to provide 18 more helicopters to the Austrian defence ministry. The January 19 contract announcement came after an agreement between the Italian and Austrian in December 2022 and means Leonardo is to provide 36 Aw168M LUH helicopters to Vienna. The LUHs, Leonardo said “will be able to carry out a wide range of missions supporting Austrian defence requirements and the national community, including troop transport, combat operations, disaster relief and emergency response, fire-fighting, mountain rescue and MEDEVAC [medical evacuation]”.
