The European Union has sent signals, for the first time, that it may recommend the suspension of Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to avert a trade war with countries including China and the United States. The suspension would provide time for the International Civil Aviation Organisation to create a global solution on climate charges for the aviation industry.
