Vietjet Thailand commences Boeing 737-8 operations

Vietjet Thailand has introduced its first Boeing 737-8 aircraft into commercial service, with the aircraft type’s inaugural flight departing on Christmas Eve.

The aircraft is powered by LEAP-1B engines and offers “full compatibility” with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The timing of the inaugural flight was set to mark the 14th anniversary of parent company Vietjet’s first flight on Christmas Eve 2011.

Vietjet said the introduction of the 737-8 represents a “significant step” in the group’s long-term strategy to develop a modern, dynamic, and large-scale fleet.

Under this strategy, Vietjet Thailand is aiming to deploy up to 50 new-generation aircraft, in order to support rising passenger demand and continued network expansion.

“These latest milestones in fleet development underscore Vietjet’s commitment to driving aviation and economic growth, while delivering safe, high-quality, and memorable journeys for millions of passengers worldwide,” the company said.

“With a focus on cost management ability, effective operations, and performance, Vietjet offers flying opportunities with cost-saving and flexible fares as well as diversified services to meet customers’ demands.”

Meanwhile, in Vietnam, Vietjet continues to operate and expand its all-Airbus fleet.

In October, Vietjet announced that it has ordered 100 A321neo aircraft from Airbus and 92 Trent 7000 engines from Rolls-Royce.

The Trent 7000 order, together with comprehensive maintenance services through TotalCare, was valued at $3.8bn on a list price basis.
