Kenya Airways resumes Embraer fleet operations to enhance reliability during peak festive season

Kenya Airways has returned the second of three Embraer narrowbody jets to scheduled commercial services, following the completion of “critical technical maintenance” procedures.

The reintroduction of the three aircraft will take place “just in time” to meet peak festive season demand, the airline added.

George Kamal, acting group managing director and CEO of Kenya Airways, said the reintroduction of the three aircraft will be an “important operational milestone” for the airline.

“With the first aircraft released on December 18 and the final one scheduled to return before the year’s end, we are building the momentum and consistency necessary to enter the New Year as a stronger, more reliable carrier,” he said.

Kenya Airways is executing a phased fleet restoration to stabilise its flight schedule, restore passenger confidence, and reinforce its operational reliability across its regional network.

Through a strategic partnership with Kenya’s State Department for Aviation & Aerospace Development, it is also helping to streamline spare part logistics.

“Rather than direct financial intervention, the  focus has been on operational enablement, removing logistical bottlenecks and ensuring smoother access to the maintenance inputs required for fleet availability,” the company said.

Kenya Airways flies to 42 destinations worldwide, 37 of which are in Africa, connecting over 5 million passengers and over 70,000 tonnes of cargo annually through its hub at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
