Air New Zealand has bought 49.1 million Virgin Australia shares to retain its ownership stake at 19.99%. The move was prompted by Singapore Airlines joining the shareholder register to buy a 10% stake for $A105 million. Air NZ had to buy more shares to prevent its own stake being diluted.
