Halfway through inspections, the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has so far found no issues with General Electric GEnx-1B engines on board 747-8 and 787 aircraft. The investigations were prompted when an engine on a Boeing 787 failed at Charleston, S.C on July 28. The Boeing 787 engine fractured towards the back of the shaft where the retaining nut is installed, allowing it to mix and clash with the exhaust, investigation analysts have found but they have so far ruled out any design issues as the cause, and accounted it to surface contamination.
