The BASIC countries – Brazil, South Africa, India and China – have made a stand against the proposed implementation by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) of carbon emission tax on airlines.  The group has expressed concerns over the recent draft proposal of the ICAO and its plan to cap the aviation sector’s emission by introducing a market-based mechanism. It says the tax will impose inappropriate economic burden on developing countries. ICAO is scheduled to meet in September to finalise the taxation regime.
