An American Airlines 737NG became the first aircraft in the US to use a required navigation performance (RNP) approach designed by a third party for public use. All previous RNP approaches to US airports were designed by FAA in conjunction with carriers such as Alaska Airlines. The RNP approach was taken into Bradley International Airport in Hertford Connecticut (BDL). The new landing procedure at BDL will enable airliners to land on Runway 15 during periods of low visibility that previously would have stopped them from landing there.
