Spanish airline Swiftair has placed a firm order for four B737-400 passenger-to-freighter conversions from US-based Aeronautical Engineeers Inc, with an option for an additional four. Swiftair said that the first aircraft is currently undergoing conversion at AE’s Commercial Jet facility in Miami, with the second due to undergo conversion shortly. In addition to 14 aircraft in passenger configuration (11 ATR 72 turboprops and three MD-83s), Swiftair currently operates 28 freighter aircraft, made up of two 737-400Fs, five 737-300Fs, six ATR72Fs, four ATR42Fs, one ATR42QC, and ten Embraer 120Fs.
