Undisclosed Russian customers have selected Aeronautical Engineers (AEI) to convert six Boeing 737-400s in 2011. AEI has stated it is in negotiations with another Russian carrier to convert five 737-400s. Russian carriers are intending to use the freighter conversions of the 737-400 to replace the ageing Antonov An-12s freighters. These conversions will be carried out at AEI’s Miami Commercial Jet facility but the company plans all Russian bound conversions to be carried out at Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services centre. AEI has received certification from the CIS for its 737-300/400SF which has also been certified by the FAA, EASA, China’s CAAC
