WestJet’s new regional service, WestJet Encore, will launch next year and its CEO Gregg Saretsky says by offering “more rational pricing” on routes currently only served by Air Canada, it will serve to increase demand. Speaking to the Canadian Club in Montreal, Saretsky said that smaller towns had been pitching for WestJet Encore to fly to their towns to help drive down fares. “This isn’t about carrying the same number of people at half the price. It’s about growing the market by 100, 200, 300 per cent and allowing Canadians access to more affordable airfares.”
