US government data show the country’s airline passenger traffic topping 67 million in January 2023, down 3.7% on the “all-time high” recorded in January 2020. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS) numbers showed “January enplanements” up 4% on December 2022, with 58.1 million domestic passengers and 9 million international passengers on U.S. airlines’ flights. Almost 30% more passengers flew in January 2023 compared to the same month the year before, with almost 150% more flying compared to January 2021. The data are collated from statistics sent to the BTS by airlines in the US.
