A Florida-bound Southwest Airlines flight was forced to turn back to Havana after hitting a flock of birds shortly after take-off. The strike caused engine damage and saw the cabin fill with smoke, according accounts from passengers given to US media. Passengers had to evacuate down slides due to the cabin smoke. No injuries were reported, with the passengers bussed to the airport terminal ahead of being taken on subsequent flights to Fort Lauderdale, the destination of the stricken aircraft.
