The Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiquities is planning to develop the Eastern Province as one of the three major tourist centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its chairman, Prince Sultan bin Salman has urged businessmen to launch a private airline for the region to facilitate travel, while also calling on Saudi Arabian Airlines to operate more flights to the province, making use of its newly purchased aircraft. Saudi Arabian Airlines has ordered 88 new aircraft from Boeing and Airbus, 42 of which have already been delivered.
