Qatar Airways chief Akbar al-Baker has slammed claims his airline has received illegal state subsidies stating that the state money the airline receives is in the form of legitimate equity. Al Baker added that his fleet of new aircraft were much better for the environment that Delta Air Lines “crap airplanes that are 35 years old”. This war of words between the US carriers and the Gulf carriers is likely to continue as the talks over the Open Skies agreement between the two parties rumble on.
