Jean-Marc Pajot, CEO of Fly Congo, said yesterday that they were destroying aircraft from Hewa Bora Airways to restore the confidence of the Congolese people in airlines. Pajot said they will destroy five Boeing-727s and one of another type of aircraft over two to three months. Hewa Bora had a history of fatal crashes. In July, a Hewa Bora plane crashed in a thunderstorm as it was attempting to land at Kisangani airport in eastern Congo, killing 85 people.
