The financial committee of Bahrain’s parliament may turn down a government request to pump BD660 million ($1.75 billion) into national carrier Gulf Air, a senior government official has been quoted as saying in local press. “Sanctioning such a request means backing corruption and squandering of public money,” committee chairman MP Ali Al Dirazi said, calling for all those involved in the airline’s decline to be prosecuted. The BD400 million injected into the airline recently had failed to improve its performance or profitability, he pointed out.
