New Japan Aviation will commence operations linking Japan’s southern city of Kagoshima to a remote southern island Suwanosejima. The airline will operate a Cessna 172 twice every week. Suwanosejima is a remote village with a population of fewer than 50 people, eight-kilometer long, located in Japan’s Ryukyu Islands. The island has an active volcano that still has explosions and produces plumes of smoke several times each year. The only way to reach the island previously was via sea ferry which takes around nine hours. New Japan Aviation operates smaller aircraft such as Cessna 172s and Britten-Norman Islanders that can land
