Mexicana de Aviacion, which was grounded last year amid bankruptcy proceedings, has carried out two test flights in advance of the airline’s hopeful relaunch. Two Airbus A320s, operated by Mexicana, flew to Acapulco from Mexico City and back to re-certify their engines. More flights are expected for next week. A restructuring plan submitted by local private equity firm PC Capital for Mexicana has already been approved by the Mexican authorities. Under the plan, the airline will reduce its fleet to a fraction of the former size, exclusively fly Airbus A320 aircraft, and focus only on profitable, high-traffic routes.
