The Kuwaiti government is to retain a golden share when Kuwait Airways is privatized. The state will therefore be able to veto all decisions on strategic issues, while also continue to contribute to financing the purchase of new aircraft and deal with the airline’s debt accumulated between 2004-12, estimated to be more than KD440m ($1.55bn). Marwan Boodai, chairman of Jazeera Airways, has indicated his interest in the state to local media, but only if it had a “clean, clear balance sheet”.
