Japan Airlines (JAL) has purchased Mitsubishi Corporation’s 16.7% stake in Jetstar Japan – meaning the company now owns 50% of the voting rights in the budget carrier. Other shareholders include Qantas which holds 33.3%, with the remaining 16.7% being held by Tokyo Century. A statement from the company said that Jetstar Japan “will still operate under its own management structure.” The value of the transaction is undisclosed. The original structure of Jetstar Japan, which launched in 2012, saw Qantas’ Jetstar Group and Japan Airlines each hold 33.3%, while Mitsubishi Corporation and Century Tokyo Leasing Corporation owned 16.7% each of voting rights.
