The European Union’s competition watchdog approved French state aid worth €7bn for Air France-KLM. The carrier obtained a state guarantee and a subordinated shareholder loan, a financial lifeline executive say was needed for its survival in the face of a collapse in revenue due to COVID 19. The French government has set-out a number of conditions for Air France-KLM with respect to recusing the aid, which include being a “good customer” Airbus and a revamp of loss-making services domestic business.
