In a lengthy interview to the UK Financial Times, Tim Clark, CEO of Emirates has again reiterated the fact that the airline is not subsidised by Dubai’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. The only subsidy it receives, said Clark, is in for form of aero-political protection to the airline, a tactic that European governments used for their own flag carriers when they first started out. Emirates celebrated its 25th anniversary last week and also reported strong half year profits (see Aviation News story here).
