The Department of Transportation is investigating United Airlines after the carrier sold tickets Sunday to and from Hong Kong for only four frequent-flier miles plus taxes which it then refused to honour. Under new pro-consumer ticket-buying regulation, airlines are prohibited from increasing the price of air transportation after a purchase is made, which includes any fares issued by mistake. United Continental Holdings said in a statement that the correct number of miles required was displayed to customers on booking screens, and only was incorrect when the final price was shown.
