The Department of Transportation is investigating United Airlines after the carrier sold tickets Sunday to and from Hong Kong for only four frequent-flier miles plus taxes which it then refused to honour. Under new pro-consumer ticket-buying regulation, airlines are prohibited from increasing the price of air transportation after a purchase is made, which includes any fares issued by mistake. United Continental Holdings said in a statement that the correct number of miles required was displayed to customers on booking screens, and only was incorrect when the final price was shown. United is cooperating with the DOT investigation
