On 17 April Delta Air Lines increase its one-way prices by $5 to $10. The move, in common with past four fare rises this year, is expected to provoke a broad-based fare increase. Indeed United Airlines raised its fares later the same day. The broad-based fare increases are aimed at business travelers that purchase on the day or within a week of flying. Analysts are confident more fare rises will not impact demand and help to keep airlines profitable for the rest of the year.
