China Eastern has posted a 97.7% drop in net profit during the first half of 2014. Its net profit of CNY14 million ($2.3 million) was made on revenue of CNY42.59bn in the first six months, up 2.68% from the same period of last year, according to a statement the airline filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.The airline attributed the performance to “geopolitical instability, fewer high-end business travelers and more convenient high-speed railway services.”
