American retires 20 MD-80s

American Airlines is retiring 20 MD 80s first put into service in the late 1980s to the Roswell Air Center in New Mexico. The carrier had 87 MD-80s in operation by the end of June but with these and other retirements, the MD 80 fleet is expected to reduce down to 52 by the end of the year.
